White garden rose is one of the most popular flowering plants of all time. The rose has been around for generations and shows no signs of abating or going into retirement. Almost anyone can tell you who was sent roses. The rose makes a special gift around certain holidays. St. Valentine’s Day is big. But there are many more major holidays that can be listed here to.

Where do you get your roses from? Some of you have awesome gardens to pull out any color rose of your imagination or need. Others have a popular florists that supplies their roses. A recent trend has been for grocery stores to add a section for fresh garden flowers. What used to be the domain of the local florists, has been encroached upon by the local grocer.

After sampling many of the flowers from the grocery store, the only convenience worth paying for at a florist shop would be their arranging skills, delivery services or perhaps that very rare and special flower for a hot date. Other than those things, you can get a great bouquet right down at Wal Mart for dirt cheap. But you will have to deliver them.

The rose has a distinct sweet scent. The aroma is almost maddening to think of it right now. Just consider that in France and other hugely popular countries that produce massive amounts of perfumes and colognes, the rose is harvested for its potent scent.

You’ve probably noticed that the assortment of types, sizes, and colors or roses is probably unable to be counted. Depending on where you are attempting to purchase them, you’ll also find the prices will vary amongst selection, preference and other factors like demand. If for instance you are attempting to get a certain color of rose for a nationally celebrated holiday or special occasion, you’ll find the prices just climbing compared to when you are purchasing at a less demanding time.

If money is a little tight, you could always start growing your own roses in a pot or a planter. Later on as the plant grows and grows you would simply replant it into another or larger pot. Always check out specific growing instructions for your area and location of the world. Some areas are not conducive to growing roses and many other plants.

Another often overlooked fact about planting roses is the need to place them in the right area. Roses are very fragile and gentle plants. They can grow in areas that are shaded as well as those in the sun. You really need to do a little research as to which type of rose you want, and what your garden conditions will persisted for your plants. Obviously there will be a big challenge for you if you attempt to grow a “thornless rose plant’ in the sunshine. Why? Because this variation of roses cannot have a lot of sun. They require shade in order to grow, blossom, bloom and shower you will their sweet scent.

Roses bush gardening in areas or around the perimeter can add a very classic look to your landscaping. Another factor here is that they act as a framing plant for your entire garden. What may not be beneficial to you is that certain types of roses require lots of sunshine. While others require strict amounts of shade. Can the two be mixed up together? Probably not a good idea.

When you use landscape roses to do the same thing, they can make the outside of your home spectacular. Your neighbors may stop you and use words to describe what they adore such as, “graceful, fragrant, very inviting”. This will make you one of the more popular neighbors in the neighborhood.

Fore example, some gardens are fans of a trellis. Do you have a trellis on your property? If you do, adorning them with roses that climb up and wrap or intertwine themselves into the trellises is beautiful especially when they blossom and bloom.

Should you not have a trellis or one is not available you could look to accent a wall with climbing roses. This as you can imagine is easy to imagine and also its easy for your to achieve that effect on your own.

Roses have the ability to thrive in a lot of different temperatures, time zones and climates. Just make sure that you select the right rose for your area or target planting areas. If you mistakenly grab the wrong plant to install in your garden, you may opt to return it to the garden store where you purchased it. In our opinion it is just not worth the extra energy, maintenance headaches, pest problems and disease issues that could invade your garden because of a single poor selection.

Rose Garden Care

Dear Friend,
Rose garden care is really nothing more than common sense as it pertains to caring for plants and any living organism. In this article we will share with you the tried and true methods of making the best rose garden grow into a beautiful oasis of fragrant roses.

You may be like a few of our readers that have really been blessed with neighbors who have the gardening talent down pat. If you do, you know of the good fortune of having them waiting until you come home and they’ll show up at your door with FREE garden flowers of all varieties. Instead of being embarrassed with your lack of know how when it comes to proper care and feeding of your garden plants, you can print out this article and use it as a checklist for caring for your garden.

To begin with lets assume that your have started your roses off the right way. The steps to do that are as follows:
1.  It starts with buying the best garden stock that you can afford. This is really the number one tip because you cannot normally take a weak, wilted, dried out rose plant and stick it in the ground, provide a little water and expect it to blossom and bloom for you.

So buy good stock of about 3 or more heavy 18 inch canes that are at least 1/4 inch in diameter from at the top. This will get you into the right ball park for selecting the right ingredients.

2. Caring for your plant includes giving them the right amount type of food. In the spring time is when you should do your first feeding. Basically, just clear away the mulch or leaves from the winter season first. Next, take a rounded tablespoon of fertilizer and pour it around the base of the plant. This is valid unless you have tea roses then you’d have to do something differently.

The next feeding should come immediately after the first heavy blooming. Then the third would be about 15 August or so. As you can see it is almost once a quarter. This is a neat way to remember to do this. Once neighbor just does the it the lazy way. She will write it on her calendar. She keeps a separate calendar for yard work and garden duties out in her garden shed.

Many growers advocate a monthly feeding schedule. This never made enough sense to me because we live in a Northern climate. In Southern climates it is possible to feed your plants into late October and November. So, if you are in a Northern climate, make your last feeding for the year around the first of week of October.

3. You’ll have to address at some point the amount and type of pests your garden generates. If you use basic chemicals like those that prevent insects from chewing, laying eggs and further destroying your plants is advisable. The most popular choice of the last few years has been the organic or non-lethal pesticides and herbicides. This is a decision that you’ll have to make on your own. Harming the environment is not something anyone should do.

Rose Flower Garden Benefits

Dear Friend,
Rose flower garden landscapes have not changed much over the years. Some roses have the ability to grow quite tall. More than four feet for some varieties. Whether you want to use roses to spruce up your yard, hide a less than perfect area of your home, or bask the wonderful fragrant scents they impart, you should understand that roses can be used for many purposes.

Some people use rose shrubs as an accent to formal or informal landscaping.  Others use them to balance out the silhouette of their landscape. You could also use roses to complement the herb garden you’ve worked so hard to cultivate.

Most roses have an innate ability to repel disease. This is not true of insects. There are an entire host of insects that have been notorious for attacking roses. Knowing what to look for and the signs that invaders have come is crucial to having your plants stay around for a long time.

What insects are quite common for rose infestation?

1. Aphids,
2. Rose slugs
3. Mites
4. Rose chafers
5. Rose cane
6. Rose midge
7. Larva insects
This list is not meant to be all inclusive of offenders. This is really just a miniscule amount of the pest and insects out there.

Depending on your mission or purpose, you could also use shrub roses because they are almost maintenance free. Talk about hands free gardening at its best. You’ve got it right here. They resist climate changes to. This is the best of all worlds.

Because certain shrub roses can grow very tall, 4 ft n some cases, they make the perfect plant to install and hide some less than attractive area of your home. Perhaps you could not remove the eye sore. Maybe painting over it was not an option either, in this case depending on just where the offending area is, you may need to consider installing rose shrubs to obscure that area.

One key area that people often overlook is that one rose plant may not be enough depending on your situation. The more rose shrub plants you install the more blossoms, blooms and fragrant roses you will have forward to.

Your roses can be used in a variety of ways. If you’d like to make a few dollars for your gardening skills, why not sell a few of them to passersby. This works nicely especially if you have children that need an activity to keep them occupied with. Just seek to charge a nominal fee. Nothing exorbitant. But don’t just give them away for free. You’ve invested time, soil, sweat and if we are dealing with roses here, probably a few pricks from thorns and briars.

In some parts of the world like France, the growers of flowers and herbs do big business. They sell their herbs and flowers to perfume companies who are more than happy to get fresh fragrant flowers direct from French gardens. You never really know which combination of flowers will make that next blockbuster fragrance.

Plant A Rose Garden

Dear Friend,

To plant a rose garden there are a number of resources you will need to use. First are you wanting to have just a single plant? Or would you like an entire garden designed with the latest in computer aided design (CAD)?

These are just a few of the elementary questions you’ll need to answer before getting started. It is sometimes difficult to make a choice. I mean do you like red or white roses? Should you alternate in pink roses to of would you rather they act as an accent to the red and white roses?  It is tough to decide I agree. Hopefully you will see the benefits of going with what you feel as opposed to just what a garden designer recommends for you. The choice is really all up to you.

Another decision you’ll need to make is that of location. It has been said of real estate before, that nothing is more important than location, location, location.

In planting your rose garden this surely applies to. The sunny needs of your new plants will require at least six (6) hours of direct sunshine. If you live in a climate to where that would not be possible, then perhaps roses are not the right plant for your area.

Before you plant, here are some basic tips to keep in mind. You will need to dig the hole at least six inches deeper than needed for the plants roots. As you know, the roots are what allows the plants to get nourishment and water and soak in the nutrients from the soil. Without a plant with a good system of roots, you’ll be giving your plants the fast track to death by starvation. The roots have it!

When the hole is still exposed you’ll want to place a handful of small rocks or stones (pebbles) inside the hole. So make sure the hole you dug is first large enough and second it is deep enough. The pebbles and rocks act as aim internal drainage system. The water need to flow into the hole, be up taken by the plants roots. But even more importantly, you don’t want water to just pool there in the hole. Mix in a tablespoon of fertilizer with the soil and place it over the drain “system” described above. Finally, make a mound of soil in the center of the hole to receive the plants roots. Set them directly on this mound and press them into the soil. Firmly press other soil around this “bulb” and cover over with back fill soil.

There you have it. You’ll successfully give your plants an installation that not one in a hundred gardeners know about. You are welcome to print out this article and use it as a checklist. Follow my neighbors idea and get a gardening calendar to. This really makes gardening less work.

White Garden Rose Essentials

Dear Friend,
A white garden rose is one the most beautiful things you can see. The color often denotes one of honesty, purity and fidelity. Growing them may be a little more difficult than many people first think.

If you want to grow roses there are a number ways and reasons for doing so. You can move your plants around your garden to a section that more accurately gives the right amount of sunshine. You see, some roses love sunshine. In fact, they may require direct sunlight for up to six (6) hours a day.

The varieties that would fit this will often be have the instructions written on the side of the package. If it is not there, you can also look for graphics or pictures of a half sun, full sun, or a quarter sun picture. As you can guess here, the more full sun or the entire globe denotes a plant that requires a lot of sunshine. And then of course the reverse is true.

Before you actually go out to purchase a number of rose bushes, you should see if you have a neighbor or friend that can gift you (or purchase) a transplanted bush from their garden. If you are fortunate to have a good neighbor that has a “green thumb” this will be a big boost to their self esteem. Everyone likes to help people at some point or another.

First things first though, you’ve got to prepare the soil where you intend to plant your new bush. Of course the aforementioned precautions need to be heeded. You need to get the entire ball including the roots so as the plant can take in the water and nutrients from the soil and grow, flourish and blossom and bloom for years to come.

Water is a crucial ingredient in the transplantation. If you transplant a sickly, dry or wilting plant, the chances are almost nil that it will successfully take off and grow. In contrast, if the plant is robust, green, and full of health and water your chances of a successful transplantation go up considerably.

The roots of a rose need to grow very deep into the soil. This growth and getting the root system to take hold to the soil in order to absorb water often spells success or failure for many transplants.

When you prepare the ground or start to dig the plant out, make sure you try to dig around the root system. This means that you need to dig a larger circle around the plant. It is as if there is an imaginary ball and you want to keep all of the soil compacted around the plant together.

If the transplant starts to wilt, all is not lost yet. The best thing to do at that point is give it as much water as you can. Now this does not mean that you drown the plant. But you need to provide more than enough water to keep the plant hydrated almost twenty four hours a day. If the plant dies after this, well at least you did not starve it to death. Many times they will recover because water has a way of bringing things back to life.

If this is successful you will have a very hearty and healthy white garden rose that should last a long time. Don’t forget that the best time to perform a transplant is right after the annual pruning period. This time allows you to move a much smaller plant and hopefully with the proper preparation and a lot of water, you can have a beautiful, blossoming and blooming garden.

Roses In Garden Clubs

Dear Friend,
For thousands of years Roses in garden settings around the world have enthralled rose enthusiasts. Who can resist the almost hypnotic appeal of a red rose? Most women just adore them for the simple reason that red roses have an intrinsic meaning to them. That of love.

One trend in gardening that shows no sign of letting up is that of organic gardening. When you think of the impact that pesticides have had on anything grown in the ground, is there any wonder why this trend won’t revers? Probably not any time soon.

Organics love to discuss the benefits of using their products for family, pets, wildlife, and the water supply. This is something that has far reaching influence. Every living organism needs H20 to survive. Man or in this case your beloved roses can only withstand a certain amount of days without water.

If you don’t believe me try it. Try not to water your plants or your grass for that matter for a few days. If you had a lawn that was well cared for, properly fertilized and hydrated, once water is withheld you will see for yourself that water is essential.

When you experiment with chemicals, your plants will grow to depend upon them. It is fair to say that you could use environmentally friendly herbicides, pesticides but that statement is virtually oxymoronic.

The leaves of the plants are photo synthesized. That is the process water and sunlight in order to produce energy. In the same way that the human body must metabolized all hardened food into sugar or glucose before it can be used as fuel (energy).

Herbicides and pesticides as well as commercially based fertilizers can destroy natural organisms. This disruption in the earths ecosystem is the reason behind the huge organic movement around the globe. If we do not take care of the earth while we are here for a short time, there may be no earth for future generations to occupy. Sobering thought isn’t it?

The goal of organic gardening and being environmentally conscious is not to make you into some fanatic trying to save the earth, but rather to help you to make better decisions and choices that don’t harm other living organisms.

Another goal in planting roses is to grow the largest blooms of the most fragrant roses. Inclusive of having a spectacular garden of radiant hues. This would indeed be beautiful to the eyes.

Rose Tree Garden Planting

Dear Friend,
Rose tree garden planting is a very important endeavor. You should avoid picking a location without a few considerations we’ll reveal below. The cost of a plant can add up over time. And who wants the frustration of seeing a dieing tree? Not you right?

1. First and foremost one of the most important things you should consider when it comes to choosing the right place for your new plant involve the sun. If you select a location that gets to much or to little sunlight, that could pose a problem. The intense sun rays beating down on your plant with direct sunlight may cause your plant to die of over exposure to the sun.

2. The second consideration for your new plants health concerns what you put it in. That is the soil. Not all soil is created equal. If your soil is filled with so many rocks, pebbles or stones, this will be felt by your plant directly.  You can see so far, that planting roses is not as simple as digging a hole, dropping it inside, recovering it with earth and letting it grow.

Some times you have soil that is filled with clay. The clay acts to pull water away from your plants. This leaves your plants dieing and early grave. Good sold should clump together when you squeeze it in the palm of your hand. You can make a tight fist of it and it will pull together. Try it and see. Other things to look out for but are difficult to see with the naked eye are soil that is filled with to much chalk, limestone or has a very acidic quality. You could buy some equipment to test the soil before planting but most gardeners try to avoid unnecessary expenses like this if they can.

3. Watch out for the location of where your plant is going to go. If you place it among other shrubs, plants, and trees, not all of those plants are complementary. Some do better by others. While some are more or less a detriment to their partners in the ground. Especially if placed to close to them.

You see, what happens is that your larger plants will require more of the nutrients and water that comes into the soil. If you have a starter rose bush going, the starter is not strong enough to pull the earths resources to it. What you will have is a starving plant.

Mixing rose plants together is a good idea. But only if you are using certain non threatening plants. For example most rose plants like to be mixed with other rose plants. So mixing different varieties of roses, from pinks, to black, to whites even yellow roses, can be very beautiful.

In conclusion, now that you’ve got the ideal location for your new rose, just consider these basic tips to avoid killing your plant. When you dig the hole, you’ll probably need to dig the hole a little larger than the pot or bag the plant came in. Depth and width can vary. So, simply read the bag for the variety of rose that you want to plant. It is always a god idea to place a little compost or fertilizer in the bottom of the hole. Think of this as starter growth food. Your new plant will be well on its way to a blossoming blooming beginning in your garden.

English Garden Rose Care

Dear Friend,
An English garden rose is a most beautiful flower to behold. Much like many of the varieties of roses you may have seen around the world, the rose family sports some spectacular specimens.

There is nothing so rewarding as growing a garden full of roses. The rose as you know, has been around for centuries. It endures and grows more elegant with time. The proper care, feeding and maintenance of the plant is essential to the lifeline of your bushes.

The varieties of rose bushes is startling to the imagination. You could have a special rose for every occasion. Your selection could be based solely around color. Red invokes memories of love. Pink reminds of special dates or perhaps a formal event you once attended. White of course would be for weddings or the birth of a child. The list could go on endlessly. Suffice it to say that color, shape, and any other preference you have could be filled completely by roses.

Most rose bushes follow similar care and feeding instructions. These are merely an overview of some of them. For instance, most rose bushes need at least six (6) hours of raw direct sunlight each and every day. They enjoy the sun, and are hearty enough to endure the strong sunshine.

Some roses do better in the shade. so make sure you check the manufacturers growing instructions. They are normally listed on the outside of the package. If you do not find them there, take a look online by visiting your favorite search engine like Bing.com or Google. Key in “abc (variety) or rose picture”. This will first return results for the type of flower you have. Next, you’d just dig a little deeper and key in that variety of rose + planting instructions, or some similar phrase. This latter search will generate results for how to plant, feed, type of soil needed, to compost or not, type of information.

Roses are no different than any other plant in your garden. They attract pests and insects. These creatures can damage and even kill your rose bushes, so you need to be watchful of the tracks they may leave on your plants. Some of the more persistent pests are: aphids, rose slugs, mites, rose chafers just to name a few. Others include rose cane and rose midge larva insects.

Most gardeners know that pests come with the garden. But you don’t have to put up with them. You could take a few steps to end their raid on your plants. First, you could just kill them with your hands if you see them as you work in your garden. Seeing can become difficult because they are quite small. But knowing what to look for, that is the tell-tale tracks they leave behind is a big tip off.

For instance, if you notice a part of the rose peddle being half eaten away, that is a track that some insect has visited your plants. What you would do is cut off (prune) the leaf back beyond the point at which the plant is eaten away. If you do this, hopefully it will dissolve any eggs the insect has left behind to further infiltrate your lovely roses. Secondly, some of you may opt for the synthetic or natural pesticides. This is totally up to you. Some feel that its wrong to use them unless they are natural. But you need to make sure that whatever method you choose is compatible with the roses and the other plants you have in your garden. If not, the consequence may mean starting your entire garden over again.
